Old Dominion is taking their "Memory Lane" EP to the next level by transforming it into a full-fledged project, featuring some exciting collaborations.
Notably, country superstar Blake Shelton will make a cameo appearance on the twangy and carefree album closer, "Ain't Got a Worry." According to Old Dominion's frontman, Matthew Ramsey, Shelton personally selected this song out of a collection they presented to him. The idea of collaborating had been in discussion between the artists, making "Ain't Got a Worry" a perfect match for their creative synergy.
Ramsey shares, "When Blake started talking about us, it was a little surreal. But it was also cool. Trevor [Rosen], my bandmate, had co-written 'Sangria,' a big hit for him in 2015, so it wasn't completely crazy to ask him to join us on a track." He continues, "We sent some songs over, and he picked 'Ain't Got a Worry'... Funny thing is, if we'd really looked at the songs, of course he did. That's exactly how Blake lives."
Interestingly, Old Dominion includes two versions of "Ain't Got a Worry" on the upcoming album. A solo rendition of the song appears as track 14, followed by a reprised duet with Shelton to close the record.
Additionally, for the track titled "Can't Break Up Now," the group enlisted the talents of emerging artist Megan Moroney. Ramsey praises Moroney's innate musicality and her insightful perspective as a songwriter. He explains, "Megan's a really intuitive singer, but she's also a very smart songwriter... she came at this song from what was being said, how the melody rises, and kind of blew our minds! I think we all loved the way she creates a song, her sense of how notes flow, but she's both a songwriter and a singer who came in and pushed this song to almost a scene in a movie."
Old Dominion's extended "Memory Lane" album boasts an impressive 18 tracks, more than doubling the original eight-song EP. The full album is set to arrive on October 6th, offering an exciting blend of their signature sound and the intriguing collaborations that promise to captivate fans.
